Introduction to Roman Coins
Roman coins are one of the most frequent objects found by metal detectorists in Britain. These are often small, very worn and show little details leading some to disparage these as little more than grot!
Yet these small objects are invaluable for understanding our past and the changing economic face of Oxfordshire. In this introductory session, we will show how you can start to identify coins, the rulers they depict and the stories they can tell using actual Roman coins from the Oxfordshire Museum Services Handling collection!
