What happens when you join the pension scheme

Information for new members, including a brief guide to the LGPS.

When you join the LGPS your employer will:

  • let you know about the scheme you have joined linking you to the brief guide on this page and the national members’ website www.lgpsmember.org
  • tell you what your pensionable pay will be, and how they have calculated it 
  • tell you what your contribution rate will be, and how they have calculated it 
  • provide a contact in your organisation who will be able to answer your questions on LGPS membership
  • inform us, Pension Services, that you have joined.

We receive information from your employer monthly.

We will then contact you so you can tell us about any other pension scheme membership you have, and we will invite you to register for the My Oxfordshire Pension website.

A brief guide to the LGPS

The 'brief guide' provides a background to the scheme for members and prospective members in Oxfordshire.   

Use the scheme's national website for information, videos and interactive tools explaining the costs and benefits of LGPS membership.
