Military presence in Oxfordshire
Locations of the military bases in Oxfordshire and details of the military champions.
Oxfordshire has a large military presence with more than 11,747 military personnel (2019) and an estimated 3,500 families living and working in the county. Two-thirds of these are members of the RAF. They are stationed at:
- Bicester Garrison
- RAF Brize Norton
- Abingdon Station
- Shrivenham Station
- Vauxhall Barracks
- RAF Benson
We are committed to supporting our military forces communities across the county; our Armed Forces Covenant and our regular Civilian Military Partnership meetings underwrite this.
Military champions
We also support the Oxfordshire military bases by providing a military champion for each. This role helps forge better communication between Oxfordshire County Council, residents, and our military bases.
Our armed forces champions are:
- Overall Military Champion – Cllr Liz Leffman, Leader of the Council
- Bicester Garrison – Cllr Donna Ford
- RAF Brize Norton – Cllr Nick Leverton
- RAF Benson – Cllr Felix Bloomfield
- Abingdon Station – Cllr Richard Webber
- Vauxhall Barracks, Didcot – Cllr Ian Snowdon
- UK Defence Academy, Shrivenham – Cllr Bethia Thomas
