Fostering

Transferring from an independent fostering agency or other local authority

How to transfer to Oxfordshire's Fostering Service.

Who can transfer to our service

If you foster with an independent fostering agency (IFA) or another local authority, you can transfer to us.

We have a great deal of experience of working with foster carers who transfer. We aim to make the process as easy and as smooth as possible for you.

An easy transfer process

One of our experienced fostering social workers will get in touch with you. We will help you explore whether a move is right for you and give you the time you need to consider this big step.

Transferring to us is easier and quicker than your original approval. You won’t be out-of-pocket if you decide to transfer, our allowances and skills fees are competitive.

"We were guided throughout the move and we are very pleased we decided to make the move, it was easy for us and did not affect our fostered child at all.  We are still very impressed with the support we receive."

- Foster parents, Elaine and Derek.

How to transfer to us

If you decide to transfer, we will not contact your agency until you have discussed your plans with them.

What happens next?

We'll allocate one of our fostering social workers to complete the assessment. The social worker will contact your current agency to discuss and agree on transfer arrangements. They'll work out the timing of your proposed move and ensure the transfer will not disrupt any children in placement.

A social worker will visit you to update your last Form F describing your fostering experiences to date. This process is much quicker than a new assessment.

We'll present your report to our fostering panel to seek 'in principle agreement' to your approval.

We'll arrange with you and your current agency the date this new approval will start and when the old approval will end. We'll confirm with you, any children in placement and their social workers once the transfer process is complete.
