What you can expect
The name says it all.
But why the focus on dinosaurs? Quarrying in Oxfordshire has uncovered many examples of these terrifying lizards with finds including large bones and footprints.
The Megalosaur was also pieced together in Oxford for the first time so they are as much a part of the county’s heritage as anything else displayed in the museum.
It’s hard to imagine now but Oxfordshire was once a landscape of squid infested seas and tropical islands. Herds of Cetiosaur were stalked by meat-eating Megalosaurus predators. Whale-like Icthyosaurs lived on fish and squid and were hunted by bigger Pliosaurs.
Inside the gallery, children can dress up as dinosaurs and enjoy dinosaur themed games, puzzles or the puppet show.
Large dinosaur heads are there on the gallery wall, one a carnivore and the other a herbivore. Feed them the right food by dropping it down their throats and they will roar. The centre piece of the gallery is a film presented by Chris Packham, exploring the dinosaurs of Oxfordshire.
And of course, don’t forget, we have our very own dinosaur garden behind the café.
