Year 7 - secondary school applications

Apply to transfer to Year 7 at secondary school for September 2025.

Make an application to secondary school

Use the form below to transfer your child to Year 7 at secondary school for September 2024.

If your child was not born between 1 September 2012 and 31 August 2013 (inclusive), you may need to complete an in-year transfer for secondary school. Contact us for advice.

Applications received between 1 November 2024 and 17 March 2025 will be processed in the second allocation round, which will be completed on 8 May 2025.

Applications received after 17 March will be processed later in the year and have a lower chance of successfully securing a place at a preferred school.

If you cannot apply online, an application form is available to download, print and post to us (pdf format, 70KB).

Apply online

To apply online, you will need:

  • an internet-enabled device (e.g. laptop, desktop computer, tablet or mobile phone).
  • an email address that you can access so that you can receive email updates from the Portal, including the 8-digit secure code to complete login.
  • to have read our page about online school applications before you start or if you have any problems
  • the names of the schools you are requesting for your child (in preference order) – we strongly recommend that you use all four preferences.

If you are unable to apply online

You can request an paper application form from a school or the School Admissions Team or download a common application form (pdf format, 70KB), print it out and post it to us.

Important things to remember when applying for a secondary school place

  • It is the responsibility of parents/carers to apply for a school place.
  • Apply on time. The deadline for applications or preference changes is 31 October 2024.
  • If you missed the deadline, please apply by 17 March, and your application can be processed in the second allocation round, which will be completed on 8 May.
  • You can list four different schools in order of preference. We strongly advise you to use all four preferences.
  • If your application is late, it will be processed later in the year, and you are far less likely to get a place at one of your preferred schools.
  • Think about how your child will travel to school.
