Eyes on the road

Mobile phones
It is against the law to use a hand-held mobile phone while driving.
Even a two-second glance at your phone while driving at 30 mph means you've missed 100 feet of road.
Avoid the temptation - put your phone in the glove compartment.
Staying focused on the road
- avoid distractions, like changing music or talking
- if a passenger is distracting you, pull over safely and ask them to stop or get out
- to make or take a call, stop in a safe spot (not the motorway hard shoulder)
- let passengers handle calls
Texting and driving
Texting while driving makes drivers over 20 times more likely to crash. It causes three types of distraction:
- Visual – taking your eyes off the road.
- Manual – taking your hands off the wheel.
- Cognitive – taking your mind off driving.
In-car technology
Sat navs and other tech can also distract you. Set everything up before you start driving. If adjustments are needed, pull over safely before making changes.
Think!
Think! is the government's road safety campaign website. There you can view the laws relating to mobile phones.
