Guest support: Homes for Ukraine scheme

Information, support and help for Ukrainian guests in the Homes for Ukraine scheme.

English speakers of other languages (ESOL) and employment support

Anyone in the county on a recognised migration scheme is now able to access a range of support. If you are eligible, we will be in touch with you in the coming months about how you can apply.

Any support will be tailored to your needs and is voluntary – we will help find the best option for your individual circumstances.

We can help you with:

1  Support with the English language:

  • Access to training that is internationally recognised. Do we have the official line on the validity of this please AT – no, but use this phrase instead – Access to training including nationally accredited courses
  • Face to face or online lessons with an approved tutor – whatever fits in with you and your responsibilities.
  • Practical sessions on topics and conversations that you will use day to day.
  • Use of an English language learning app to support your spoken and written English.

2  Accessing information from the Department of Work and Pensions including:

  • support with retraining and getting into employment,
  • getting your questions answered or your application in for Universal Credit. This is a government benefit scheme for those who are out of work or a low income and need help with living costs,
  • requesting a laptop to help you with your search for paid work. We can also help you get support on how to use a computer.

3  Support with finding work or setting up a business. With our partner you will be able to find out more about:

  • accessing work in the UK,
  • getting additional employment support if you are already employed, or
  • starting your own business in the UK.

4  Childcare

We are able to advise you on how to access approved, affordable childcare that meets your needs and is in your local area. We can also support in helping you access transport to help get your children to their childcare setting.

5  Qualifications

If you have international qualifications that are not currently recognised in the UK, we can help advise how they can be converted to UK qualifications.

6  Work experience or voluntary work

If you are unable to get paid work or if your qualifications are not recognised, it may be an option for you to do some voluntary work to build experience that could then lead to paid employment.
